Bristol, YMCA

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) was produced as part of the refurbishment and change of use of the former Bridewell Police Station in Bristol into a YMCA youth hostel, completed in 2018. The assessment evaluated the upgraded building fabric and retained structure, alongside the performance of new and existing building services, including heating, ventilation, and lighting systems. Particular consideration was given to the constraints associated with refurbishing an existing building, ensuring that energy performance improvements were achieved while respecting the original structure. The EPC analysis established the building’s regulated energy performance and confirmed compliance with the applicable Building Regulations for refurbishment projects. The completed development achieved an EPC rating of B (37), reflecting a significant improvement in energy performance and supporting the delivery of efficient, fit-for-purpose accommodation within a repurposed city-centre building.
